Senior Living Resident Spotlight – Elizabeth Holley-Goodwin


Ella Elizabeth (Woolfolk) Holley-Goodwin was born and raised in Spotsylvania County Virginia. She was the youngest of 4 children. Elizabeth was the only girl, she has 4 older brothers. Elizabeth was married to Melvin “Pike” Holley. Pike was an A&P Grocery Store Manager.


Pike and Elizabeth were married for 27 years and have 3 children. Their oldest son, Melvin Allen Holley Jr. (Mel) works at North Anna Power station. Their middle child, James Phillip Holley works with the Virginia State Police and their daughter, Louise Elizabeth Holley-Hyde is an elementary school teacher. After Pike’s passing, Elizabeth married her second husband, William T Goodwin. They were married for 7 years.


Elizabeth graduated from Spotsylvania County High School in 1952. She earned her Master’s in Education from UVA and her Bachelor’s in Music Education from JMU. After college, Elizabeth worked as a Music Teacher for Orange County Public Schools. She says her children and grandchildren are her biggest accomplishment in life. Elizabeth is very active here at Dogwood Village. She enjoys playing the piano, participating in the Adopted Grandparents Program with the children from the Gryme’s School and she never misses a game of Bingo!
